Abstract. The need to optimize the performance characteristics of communications networks become priority of the developments related to communications, telecommunications and data transport. Issues such as speed, reliability, modularity and consistency are the features to improve in the future. The trend is the optical communications and data transport over fiber, using theconcept of existing technologies such as IP networks, but coupling control, data management and optical type. In this sense, the WDM technology rules the roost. This requires, prototype routing, multiplexing and data transport, uniting the physical plane of the fiber with the plane routing logic. Optical switches and routers are the idea for the future. In this paper, we describe the main paradigms andconcepts behind the different prototype implementation of communication network IP over WDM.

Introduction

T
he world of communications networks is focused to be most optimal and provide better and different services in the future, using high-speed routers and intelligentoptical connections. We may use IP routing protocols such as MPLS (Label Switching Multiprocol) are achieved adapt technologies of communications networks to a purely optical environment. Although this technology is adaptable to route networks with optical links, the communication between IP routers and optical network is not possible without the use of a network user interface and a network-connectioninterface network. [1]
The following report provides a general overview of what could become an optical network capable of operating switches using optical links and data packets of the same type. To this end, we describe the main concepts that are part of the overall vision, considering the typical problems and made an approach to different tools that could get to structure an optical datanetwork.

Typical topology of an optical network

As shown in Figure 1, a typical topology for an optical network is described, in which switches are interconnected networks or LANs (Local Area Networks) with switching elements of the same brand. But nevertheless, each LAN is capable of use its own brand. These IP networks are interconnected switches with optical subnets through the UNI(user network interface). These subnetworks are in turn connected by an interface NNI (network network interface) to the core network routers. Aspects such as the optical path and devices OXC (Optical Cross Connect) define the control plane of the network. The control plane is similar to the control plane of IP and MPLS therefore can make an approach to use in optical networks. [1][pic]

Optical Network Models

Can be 3 the models that serve as models of optical networking [1]:

1 The Peer Model:

It resembles a conventional IP network model, where the routers do the routing work through a routing protocol. In this case this work is done by the OXC. The advantage of this model is that it closely resemblesconventional models. The tools used to be the same for IP optical network..

2 The Overlay Model

The overlay model: In this model, protocols and routing optical network are independent of the IP network. This is the most practical model.

3 The Inter domain Model

In this model, separate addressing modes of the IP domain and optical domain, and therefore offers the best features of both the...
