[IP – 201 External ASSIGNMENT] |

There are many types of managers and types of running events, every mind is one world so it is difficult to know what the other manager thinks and how it will react to some circumstances.
My assignment will explain the definitions of management styles from 3 different authors, all of them compared andrelated to the SCEC (Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre), place where I’m doing my second Industry Placement.
First let me give you an introduction of what is the SCEC. The SCEC is Australia’s leading business events venue, is superbly located on the Darling Harbour waterfront, adjacent to the bustling Sydney central business district.
The Centre comprises three major buildings: ConventionCentre Bayside, Convention Centre Parkside and the Exhibition Centre.
The perfect venue for meetings, conferences, exhibitions and special events, the Centre offers over 30 flexible meeting rooms, ranging from smaller spaces suitable for events for up to 50 people, to an auditorium accommodating 3,500. It also features six exhibition halls and offers a total exhibition space of 30,000 squaremetres.
The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre is located in Darling Harbour, a touristic and very concurred place near Sydney’s CBD. The SCEC was opened in 1988 and held the Olympics in 2000. It has more than 30 rooms which can be used in several ways, 6 Exhibition Halls which mostly are used to hold exhibitions or big scaled dinners.
SCEC is owned by the NSW government but run by Accor Hotels. The SCEC is a very important venue not only in NSW but in Australia. It has been known that they give to their employees a big development and also they give training in their diverse sectors such as Catering, Sales, Event Coordinators, AV, etc.

Definition of management styles by Jean Roberts
Jean Roberts gives us an interesting definition of management styles, Jean established Roberts Management Concepts Pty Ltd in 1985, and until 2012 worked in all States and Territories of Australia and in NZ.
She writes that management is defined as ‘achieving agreed objectiveswith and through people’.
She defines management style as a term given to the way in which a management group takes the role of managing, the attitudes, values and behaviour that takes decisions and actions related to taking goals and objectives through the people in the workplace. Many people agreed that management style could be the same as the art of management.
Managers have responsibilitiesand they have their own way of doing things because nobody thinks the same and acts the same as other people in the same circumstances.
There are main board management styles that are: crisis management, re active and proactive management.
Crisis management is the style of management where no new or different things are considered only if the situation of crisis is reached where the problems oropportunities are ignored or just they left things happen so the crisis is reached.
Re active management is the style of management where all the decisions are taken only in response or reaction to a situation or opportunity where nothing is done to prevent the situation or to create opportunities. In this style, things are very rarely planned or very rarely initiated by the managers.
Proactivemanagement is the style of management where every possibility or opportunity is examined, where the managers or the leaders think ahead the situation and initiates actions. In the proactive management style they try to prevent problems projecting the interests and needs of all the staff members and all the areas which they have some kind of responsibility.
