THE NATIONAL FLAG
The flag of Israel is blue and white. It has got a blue Star of David on a white background, between two horizontal blue stripes.
In 2007, an Israeli flag measuring660 by 100 meters and weighing 5.2 tones was unfurled near the ancient Jewish fortress of Masada, breaking the world record for the largest flag.
HISTORY
Israel declared independence on May 14,1948. The first president was Chaim Weizman. The birthplace of the Jewish people is the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael). There, a significant part of the nation's long history was enacted, of which thefirst thousand years are recorded in the Bible; there, it’s cultural, religious, and national identity was formed; and there, its physical presence has been maintained through the centuries, evenafter the majority was forced into exile. During the many years of dispersion, the Jewish people never severed nor forgot its bond with the Land. With the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948,Jewish independence, lost 2,000 years earlier, was renewed.
CAPITAL CITY
The capital of the country is Jerusalem, though not internationally recognized as such. If the area and population of EastJerusalem is included, it is Israel's largest city in both population and area, with a population of 763,800 residents over an area of 125.1 km2 (48.3 sq mi). Located in the Judean Mountains, betweenthe Mediterranean Sea and the northern edge of the Dead Sea, modern Jerusalem has grown far beyond the boundaries of the Old City. Jerusalem is a holy city to the three major Abrahamic religions-Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Jerusalem is the biggest city of Israel with a population of around 714.000. It was built more than 3000 years ago by King David. It is a city ofpeople, as diverse as the four corner of the globe from whence they came.
