At the end of World War II, the Jewish Holocaust survivors in Europe decide to abide by the Zionist movement of Theodor Herzl (ideology which claims that Jewshave the right to live in the region of Palestine, from which they were expelled in the first century of Christ). The Jews began to immigrate to the British colony of Palestine in 1945. However, the situation was not as simple as it seems at first glance: Palestine was occupied by Muslim Arabs. The conflict between Arabs and Jews are initiated. The UN decides to end the problem and makethe Partition Plan for Palestine. In 1956 Nasser, leader of Egypt decided to nationalize theSuez Canal, which means impose tariffs on entry and exit of products through the channel. The USSR decided to "support" the Arab Middle East (Egypt, Syria...) and the United States, by contrast, issupporting the Jewish state.
Egypt blocks in 1967 the Gulf of Aqaba, the only way out of the Jews to the Indian Ocean. This causes a Jewish reaction, attacking the region of Palestine, therebytaking control of the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Mountains in Syria and the city of Jerusalem. This conflict is known as the Six Day War.
In 1970, the new president of Egypt, Anwar Sadat decided toprepare with Syria and the PLO war against Israel, because he refused to return to the Palestinian territories occupied in the war of six days. In 1973, during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the Arabs attacked Israel, and even make major territorial gains, but 10 days after the Israelites recover the occupied territories. The superpowers USA and the USSR decided to stop the war toprevent further instability in the area.
