To address the issue of psychosocial impact, caused by migration, we must refer to migration as a geographical move from one place to other people, usually for economic or social reasons. Migration can occur within the country or territory and is called internal migration or, outside of a country or territory and is called external migration.
In recent years the Ecuadorian outputhas increased, particularly to the United States, and with greater intensity to Europe, mainly to Spain, Britain and Italy.
While most migration flows are the result of poverty in countries of origin, migration has other factors related to cultural and political conditions of developing countries, leading to the expulsion of people to various destinations.
More than two million Ecuadorians haveleft the country have the right to maintain spiritual ties with his nation and family roots, as to enjoy the protection of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic and international instruments ratified by the Ecuador.
The Constitution of the Republic establishes that the highest duty of the State to respect and ensure respect for human rights, such as: recognize and protect thefamily as the fundamental unit of society, ensuring conditions conducive to achieving fully its aims and in particular to promote the development of children and adolescents and other vulnerable groups, including migrants and their families.
Monetary shipments consigned to their families by migrants are a major source of foreign exchange Ecuador after oil sales abroad, also exceeding the incomeearned by exports of bananas, cocoa, coffee, shrimp, flowers and tuna taken together.
The vulnerability of the Ecuadorian citizens who work overseas and their families who are in the communities of origin, should be a constant concern and its reduction and eradication must be subject to urgent and priority on the public agenda of the Ecuadorian State with the support of the entire community.Beyond the numbers on this phenomenon, the migration itself is not harmful, but if it is not done in a planned, orderly and legal means, can cause irreparable damage to the social fabric of the country of origin, as family breakdown, which leads to serious psychological problems for children and adolescents, which results in poor school performance, alcohol, drugs, gangs, suicide attempts, amongother social pathologies.
On the issue of the exodus of Ecuadorians to other countries, it must be remembered irregular outflows, helped by coyotes, as well as the drama facing families who are left with debts, paying high interest to moneylenders or loan sharks, signing blank bills of exchange, delivering up mortgaging and real estate, which leads to all kinds of extortion, all this in exchange forpromises to be transferred to the destination countries.
