Play PLEASE HELP! Divide the class into groups of four. Give each group a set of cards. SS place the cards face down in a pile. Explain that each card contains a problem.Useful phrases: focus on the phrases for making and responding to suggestions. Elicit what form of the verb comes after each phrase for suggesting ( You could / should + in nitive without to; Why not+ in nitive without to; How +-ing about / What about form). Model the phrases for responding, emphasising good intonation. SS repeat. Explain the rules of the game. SS take turns picking up a card andreading out the problem. Each player in the group makes at least one suggestion. The S responds to each suggestion, according to whether he / she thinks it is a good idea or not. The group votes forthe best suggestion, and that player keeps the card. SS continue until all the cards have been allocated. The player with the most cards wins. Class feedback. Ask Who had the best suggestions? Didanyone have any unusual suggestions?

Extension Extension
SS design a new shopping centre for their town / city. Tell them to think about where it would be located, what shops / facilities it wouldhave, the opening hours, etc. SS draw a plan of the centre, labelling the di erent places. Display the plans around the class. SS vote on the best shopping centre.
