In Martin Luther King’s time (1926-1968) almost all white people were racist to the black minority. Even though many black people worked very hard they were never paid nearly as much as a white man.Segregation was the law, black men and women had to sit in the back of the bus, and they also had different schools, as well as different drinking fountains and many other things.
Martin’s life wasin itself a journey of self discovery. From the time he was a kid to much later on as an adult Martin kept increasing his knowledge in various topics and forming and opinion of his own. Martin’s mainpreparation throughout his life would be when he decided to go to college as things would have been a lot different if he had not. Still, this is arguable since some people could say that hispreparation was since he was a kid and his parents thought him of the evils of the world or when he was older and became the head of the SCLC (previously known as the Southern Leaders Conference).
Martinfelt that not only his but every other black person’s freedom had been unfairly taken. Though he had never had it, not even when he was young still he knew this was something he deserved and wanted.He hated racism. He was in a very Christian household which made him think that under the eyes of god everyone was equal, still for some reason the white men and women thought of themselves as betterbeings. Through his life Martin’s task was to create a world where everyone was equal. He tried to do this by taking on many smaller tasks first but his overall goal was without doubt “equality”, asshown in his speech “I have a dream”
Martin’s mentor was his father, who showed him to stand up for himself and respect himself but also to follow god’s path and always be peaceful. Then again it couldalso be Ghandi who he learnt that peace could also be the greatest weapon. Both the lesson these men tough were of great value to Martin Luther King.
