FASHION AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Nowadays young people have found many ways to communicate and express their tastes, ideals and styles, one of these ways is through fashion. But, what is fashion?
The word fashion, moda in spanish, comes from the french mode that means mode or measure. It can be considered as a mass use of something or customs that are in adetermined region for a certain period of time. Fashion is usually associated with clothing, clothing that people wears to show its own style and personality. Although, fashion is the representation of anywhere changes. May be political, economic, etc. whatever it is, have repercussions on the way we dress and the way we act. For youth, fashion is more than dressing, is seeking a self-image,individualized, differentiated from others.
Now a days in our society we can realized that the teenagers are very influenced by the networks, specially the TV and the internet, and we can see that for many of them, fashion is a symbol of belonging to a social group, called Urban Tribes. This “Tribes” are ruled by a sort of stuff, like, music, culture, clothes, social class, etc. And someof this groups, are actually in a kind of war about the differences each others have, but in certain ways some of the teenagers lose interest about all of this when they start growing and change their taste in fashion, and others continue defending his culture cause is a kind of live.

If we are aware, there are always certain characteristics for each social group:
Like the one call emos, arecharacterized by the use of piped pants, black on clothing and fringe covering their face. Or the urban tribe known as hipsters, are distinguished by the use of tight pants, bonnet, big glasses like nerds style and tennis old school.
Proposals within the fashion industry can be defined according to the occasion. These proposals are the "classic", the "functional" and "edgy".The classic is one that defines the traditional gender role. Instead the sporty and edgy reflect the obsession with youth, trying to seduce them through advertisements, television, catalogs or being influenced by a teen idol. Young people are who decide if a garment works or not. As Erner explains in his book "In the field of fashion, as a democracy, everyone votes, but really not all votes havethe same value. Behold why designers have an obvious influence. Nevertheless, in the last instance, is the opinion of the street the one that prevails" (2005)
When one is a child, we accept the dress our parents put us, but when we grow up, young people want authenticity, show that they can make their own decisions and express their own personality, leaning on brands that bestrepresent their personality. The advertising strongly influences this part, turning brands on status symbol and social integration. This might be a contradiction to many people, as wanting to be independent, people seek a brand that best represent them, they wear it, popularizing, making their clothing no longer unique.
But fashion is never stable, is cyclical and is changing all thetime. It is not only to create new proposals, is also to renew those that existed in the past. As Christian Dior once said "fashion is paradise one day and other is hell." Young people are just fashion victims, because although many do not accept the standards of fashion today, denying it through originality, creating the famous call "antifashion", end up playing the same mechanisms they are againstof.
But fashion is not all positive. Being strong influential on young people, it also causes problems, one of them is the self-image. The designers, using aesthetic and beautiful models in their campaigns, causes many young people tend to imitate them, being operated or causing them anorexia for wanting to be as thin as them, although the latter is also a problem for the models,...
