Inhibición del Neuropéptido Y (NPY), una alternativa para tratar la obesidad.

I. Abstract. Neuropeptides are particularly suited to comparative and evolutionary studies, since they have been highly conserved during evolution. Based on primary amino-acid structure, neuropeptidescan be arranged into families and synthesized as multiple molecular variants. They may play different functional roles in different organs or tissues. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) has been implicated in the control of food intake and energy balance. Recent research results are very specific about the NPY works on the body and the as the leptin inhibits the effects of neuropeptide Y these experiments wereconducted in Knock-out mice, the researchers would study two groups of rats was that for five weeks, both fed a regular diet, but upon one of the groups was provided with leptin to inhibit NPY and results showed at the end of the five weeks, the group treated with leptin weighed less than the other group. These experiments came to the conclusion that this is due to the effect of leptin on the bodyweight is mediated in part by its effect on the expression of NYP.
