Naturally occurring female - This female is stressed, this can be seen by the white colour and slight black banding along her bodyknown as "stress stripes". When not stressed she would be a dark red/blue colour. Another sign to show she is stressed/ill is that she has her fins clamped up. |

Description
B. splendens usually grow to an overall length of about 3 inches. Although known for their brilliant colors and large, flowingfins, the natural coloration of B. splendens is a dull green and brown, and the fins of wild specimens are relatively short..
Properly kept and fed a correct diet, B. Splendens lives approximately2-4 years in captivity.
Betta Species also prefer a warmer water climate than other tropical fish - around 25-30 Degrees Celsius.(77-86 Degrees Fahrenheit)

Reproduction and early development

1-day old larvae in a bubble nest. Note that their yolk sacs have not yet been absorbed. Betta fry rely entirely on their gills to breathe.Betta splendens fish build bubble nests of varying sizes.
