INTRODUCTION TO A BIOLOGY CLASS

In this class the professor explains what to expect of this biology course and gives an introduction of the content of this subject, showing the students howbiology has progressed and beginning to explain the cell as a way to understand the principles that guide the forms of life.

The professor states that the goal of this biology course is to thinkscientific and in a rationally way, and as an educated person of the world its is important to know about biology because is part of the nowdays’ problems. But specially this semester they will be able tounderstand the general principles that are common to all forms of life focusing on the pathway between molecules and cells.

Although the earth has a lot of billions of years, and life has a longevolution, Biology has just become a science mainly to the discoveries that have been making since 50 years ago. The first important discovery was the DNA by the scientists Watson and Crick in 1953 whomade an enormous scientific revolution, and thanks to all of this we understanding now things that could appear unbelievable 50 years ago.

Firstly, it is important to understand the cells as avital unit of all forms of life. There are two cells forms the prokaryotic and the eukaryotic. the first form is more primitive and ancient than the other one , its main feauture is the lack of nucleiand bacteria are the best example of this form.On the other hand , eukaryotic cells, have a nuclei and a better all architecture;and are from this forms than multicelular organisms were formed, forexample the plants and humans.

Secondly, he focused in the eukaryotic cells.begining with the nuclei , which conteins the DNA and chromosomes and is surrounded by a membrane.other parts of the cellare the organels, like the mitochondria, which is a source of energy to the cell;the golgi apparatusand ribosomes also play and outstanding role in the cell functioning, producing membranes and...
