Rapanui

Every year in Rapa Nui, people from the island celebrate the Tapati Rapanui (rapanui’s week) to commemorate their culture and show it to visitors coming from other countries.
This carnival startson the first days of February and lasts about 10 days.
People from the island, and tourists if they want to participate, are separated in two teams, to represent the two old tribes that used to livethere. These two teams compete to win the throne for their queen. These competitions take place at the Hanga Vere Vere (big fields near Hanga Roa city) and they include: sailing, body painting,singing, cooking, swimming and crafts.

The party ends with a parade and with the coronation of the queen of the winning team.




About the religion, on the island, people still believe in Ivi Atua,the same as they did hundred of years ago: in soul immortality. Their god is called Make-Make, and the Mana is the mental and spiritual power that only tribe’s chiefs, wizards and priests had. Peoplein the island say that thanks to this power old tribes could move the moais to their final destination.
Also a very important religion manifestation is the man-bird race (Carrera del hombre pajaro)also known as Manutara. This started at the end of the XVII century. It is celebrated in Orongo on september

Principalmente, consiste en que el espíritu de los antepasados acude en ayuda de sus herederos o familiares más cercanos en caso de que ellos lo requieran. Suscreencias se centran principalmente en Make-Make, el dios creador, el dios supremo y aquel que es omnipotente.
