Alcohol is “a depressant, it is absorbed by the stomach, enters the bloodstream and goes to all the tissues and depresses the central nervous system” Drugfree.org.
“Alcohol is called a depressant ascontinued drinking leads to a slowing (depression) of the nervous system, impairing motor coordination, decreasing reaction times and leading to sad mood, impaired memory, poor judgment and visualand auditory disturbances” Baidel, Bulik, Stanley, p302.
I like to drink, I enjoy drinking when there is a social gathering or just when I feel like having, “A DRINK”, fortunately it has not become aproblem for me but have you thought when drinking may turn you into an alcoholic or alcoholism? It is said that you become an alcoholic when you have a drink. Alcoholism is when you have signs ofphysical addiction to alcohol and continue to drink, despite problems with physical health, mental health, and social, family or job responsibilities. Alcohol may control your life and relationships.Drinking has become another stage of life, drinking is your welcoming to adulthood. “Alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug among youth in the U.S. more than tobacco and illicit drugs…peopleage 12 to 20 years old drink 11% of all alcohol in the U.S.” CDC. In many cases young kids start to drink when alcohol becomes a daily habit at their homes, then there is the offering of a friend,pressure from others and then is college. Going to college has a tag that requires studying, creates debt and starting of or continuing drinking. It is a must and required among college students. Drinkingunder age brings a lot of consequences; risk of suicide and homicide, sexual assault, memory problems, changes in brain development, physical injuries, abuse of other drugs, etc.
A lot of people whodevelop alcoholism use the excuse of being under stress or personal problems, in my opinion they become selfish. They do not care how much their alcoholism has affected their personal life and the...
