The taskshave been set for three different levels of difficulty, based on the English Speaking Union’s Nine-Level and are related to the Trinity College London and University of Cambridge examinations in the following way:

Information and Booking
What level is the play for?
The play can be seen by students of all ages and levels that have had a minimum of approximately 150 hours of English instruction. It presents various elements that make it enjoyable to all students, regardless of the age group. We suggest listening to the songs in class and workingwith the plot before seeing the play (especially with young children).

What are the advantages of this type of activity when learning a language?
-It increases the student’s interest in learning the language and he or she discovers that English is also useful outside the classroom. -It challenges the student to understand English spoken by someone other than his or her teacher, thus improvingthe student’s listening comprehension. -In the days prior to and following the event the students are highly motivated. Teachers can use the written and audio resources provided to take advantage of this motivation. -Working with songs from the play is an excellent opportunity to learn new vocabulary while having fun. -It entertains whilst extolling human values in the process. -It preserves therelationship between children and the art of theatre.

Where can I see the play?

Can the play be presented at myschool?

The Plot
Our story begins in Bergerac early in the 17th century. A brave captain called Cyrano lives in this small French town. He is the best with his sword and famous far and wide for his courage, poetic skills and....... the size of his nose. Since he was a child his heart has been devoted to his friendRoxanne, the Duke’s daughter. In spite of this, Cyrano has never told her what he truly feels. He has always thought that Roxanne, as beautiful as she is, could never fall in love with a man possessing such a nose. The Duke has instructed Madame Ciboulette to find a suitable candidate for his daughter to marry. When Christian de Neuvillette arrives at Bergerac to join Cyrano’s army, Madam...
