Romantic Twist
All romantic movies have a unique story that awaits to be told. Obviously, some movies are very similar one to another. Many people may often think that romantic movies arejust boring dramas that have nothing interesting to offer. On the contrary, there are a lot of interesting movies with lovely background stories, like ‘Dear John’ and ‘The Notebook’. These movies arebased on novels written by the author Nicholas Sparks. ‘Dear John’ and ‘The Notebook’ share many similarities.
One important similarity between these movies is the setting. The place wherethe action takes place in both movies is North Carolina, even though they are not really filmed there; these two movies are filmed in South Carolina. ‘Dear John’ was filmed in Charleston, SouthCarolina in 2009. This setting was picked to pass as Wilmington, North Carolina in 2001. Like Dear John, ‘The Notebook’ was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina. However, it was filmed in late 2002, andthis setting passes as the invented town of Seabrook in North Carolina in 1940.
Another interesting similarity is that both movies cover the theme of wars. These movies tell stories about twomen that in a way served the country; In ‘Dear John’ and in ‘The Notebook’, the protagonists had to fight in wars. In ‘Dear John’, John was already in the Unites States Special Forces before meetingSavannah (the girl who he fell in love with), and had to leave her a year to go on a mission. After 9/11 terrible incident John voluntarily decided to stay two more years. Similarly happens in ‘TheNotebook’, Noah, even though he was not in the army when he met Allie (his girlfriend), after a series of complications, Noah and his best friend enrolled in the army during World War II, were Noahserved to the military for seven years. John and Noah return after knowing that both of their parents were sick and eventually in both movies they died.
