Biography:
He was Born in Caracas on August 2, 1884. He was a Venezuelan novelist and politician. He has been considered the most important Venezuelan novelist of the twentieth century and oneof the greatest Latin American literary of all time, some of his novels as Dona Barbara have gone on to become classics of American literature.
Romulo Gallegos was the sonof Romulo Gallegos Osío and Rita Freire Guruceaga, heads of a family of humble origin. In 1894 he joined the Metropolitan Seminary in order to begin their primary education, but the death of his mother on March 13, 1896, forced himto leave that school to help his father to support his household. He culminated his primary education in the school Sucre. Subsequently, in 1904 received a high school diploma.
That same year, isinscribed in the Caracas University to pursue a career in law, which leaves in 1905 because he discovered his passion for writing.
In January 1912 he was appointed director of the Federal College forBoys in Barcelona, where he married on April 15 1912, with his girlfriend Teotiste Egui Arocha, the ceremony takes place in El Valle Caracas. On June 4, of that year his father died, and he decides toreturn to the capital, where he was appointed deputy director of the Federal College of Caracas
(Now Liceo Andres Bello). In this institution he remained until 1918, when he passes to the NormalSchool, returning as a director at Caracas high school between 1922 and 1930. He died in Caracas on April 5, 1969.
Political Life:
