The general image created by the movie isregarding illegal immigration in Southern Mexico is accurate. Situations of abuse, physical violence and corruption are a reality. Still, let’s remember this is a movie and what the director decided or wasallowed to show. The real story is usually much worst that what we as outsiders are able to see.

Mexicans usually criticize USA for being intolerant, hating, abusing and showing a discriminationattitude in law enforcement regarding the topic of immigration. Still, the USA has nothing on Mexico when it comes to cracking down on illegal immigration. The Mexican government is famous for itsabuse of Central American illegals that attempt to violate Mexico’s southern border. Lots of people have protested rampant Mexican police corruption, intimidation and bribery schemes targeting illegalimmigrants. Mexico has never granted amnesty to these people.

2. Did you find evidence of government corruption in the film? Is it accurately portrayed?

The first sing of evidence ofgovernment corruption in the film was when the police officer asked the crossing immigrants to left their personal most valuable possessions behind with them and asked the people to remove all their clothing.Another example, though not precisely of corruption, was when the police officers started shooting to the people on the train. They didn’t try to stop them or just caught them while respectingtheir life. Police officers didn’t care if they had to kill these immigrants.
