School History

The school history in Great Britain focused in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The church's position in society licence it to create the first schools.
Other ones werestablish by rich and monarchs, these were privately- financed foundation, known as public schools.The rest of people received a basic learning and the remained illiterate.

At the end of the 19th century,governments began to consider about education, and they financed and built elementary schools in local areas, and provided free and compulsory schooling for children. But in secondary school, peoplehad to pay for obtain these high-level degree.
In the early 20th century, Scholarships (budgetary grants) appears, and they were available for clever people who couldn't afford the fees.

Theschool system was still ineffectual for the young poor society.

The 1944 education Act.

In 1944, the Butler Act reorganized state primary system in Britain, The state schooling became free andcompulsory until the age of 15 years old, and it was divided in three stages:

Primary school (5-12 years old)
Secondary school (12-15 years old)
Post-schooling training (15- …)

The LEAs(Local education authorities), decided which forms os schools would be used in this areas. From the Act results another two types of schools:

Country school – Primary and Secondary
Voluntaryschool – Elementary schools, founded by religions

The state secondary school, were also divided in two groups:

Grammar schools (G.S) + More academic preparation
+ Qualified children,who would obtain a job and earn more money
Secondary schools (S.S)

Placement in these institutions, depended upon an examination result of; “the eleven-plus examination”, it was a test based ona basic knowledge. Those who failed it went to S.S, and those who passes it went to G.S.
