The throat is the anterior part of the neck. The throat is the tube that carries food to your esophagus and air to your windpipe and larynx. The throat consistsof the pharynx which is the part behind the mouth and the nasal activity. It also consists of the larynx commonly called the “voice box”. The larynx help the throat in breathing, sound production,and protecting the trachea against food aspiration. The throat has various blood vessels, various muscles, the trachea, and the esophagus. The throat is a very sensible part of the body and can getseveral diseases like:
Pharyngitis
Pharyngitis is a discomfort, pain or scratchiness in the throat. Sometimes it even makes it painful to swallow. Pharyngitis is caused by the inflammation of thepharynx. Most of the cases are causes of a viral infection most commonly as the cold or flu. Pharyngitis is the medical term for sore throat. Pharyngitis can be easily transmitted by the air by coughsand sneezes of people having the flu virus. The main symptom for pharyngitis is a sore throat. Other symptoms may be having a fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, skin rashes, and swollen lymphnodes. To be able to diagnose pharyngitis your health care provider will perform a physical exam and look at your throat. Pharyngitis is caused by viruses so antibiotics do not help. Experts recommendusing a soft treatment by drinking warm liquids, and gargling several times a day with warm salt water. If you don’t take care it can produce a reinfection. There is no vaccine against pharyngitis. Youcan prevent from having pharyngitis by being far from people having the flu virus. What most impressed me about pharyngitis is that you can get it so easily. In conclusion pharyngitis is not one ofthe worst diseases we can get, but we have to take care so we don’t get it.
