RESUMEN: El autor propone una conexión entre el programa televisivo de telerealidad,
conocido popularmente como "Gran Hermano", y el cineasta surrealista hispano-mejicano
Luís Buñuel. Ha de saberse que para Buñuel era muy importante el poder controlar a sus
personajes en pequeños entornos, tal y como se lo había mencionado a su amigo MaxAub:
"…A mi, los grandes horizontes, el mar, el desierto, me vuelven loco… ¡No sé qué hacer!
Siempre me las arreglo para encerrar a mis personajes en un cuarto, en una finca, en algún
sitio donde los pueda vigilar, tener a mano1" y por ello estaba fascinado por el
comportamiento humano cuando éste se fuerza a sus límites. Nunca fue un secreto que el
famoso cuadro del pintor francés Gériacult,"La balsa de la Medusa", le había atraído
cuando tan solo era un niño. El que la mayoría de unos náufragos sobrevivan a la más
cruel de las catástrofes naturales, tan solo para morir a manos de sus congéneres, es en sí
un acto de barbarie surrealista que nos lleva a repensar el trabajo del filosofo británico
Thomas Hobbes y a replantearnos nuestros propias creencias cuando, muchos denosotros,
pensamos que no somos seres agresivos y culpamos a la televisión de nuestro
comportamiento y nuestros valores morales, los cuales tan solo se mueven por odio,
egoísmo, codicia y por mero instinto de supervivencia.
ABSTRACT: The author believes to have observed a connexion between the television
program of reality TV popularly known as "Big Brother", and between the Spanish-Mexicansurrealist film director Luis Buñuel. For Luis Buñuel it was very important to be able to control
his characters on small surroundings just as he had mentioned it to his friend Max Aub: "
…To me, the immense horizons, the sea, the desert, deranged me I don't know what to do! I
always arranged myself to enclose my characters in a room, in a farm, at any site where I
could watch over them, to have ahand at2“, and he was fascinated by the human behaviour
when it is forced to its limits. It was never a secret that Gériacult’s famous painting "The Raft
of the Medusa" had fascinated Buñuel when he was only a boy. That the great majority of a
few shipwrecks were able to survived to the most cruel of the natural catastrophes only to
died at the hands of their peers is a surrealist act of crueltywhich takes us to rethink on the
philosophical work of the British philosopher Thomas Hobbes, and to reconsider our own
believes when many of us think that we are not aggressive beings, and blamed the TV as it

was guilty for our own behaviour and moral values which are solely moved by hatred,
selfishness, greed, and survival.
