STONEHENGE, WONDER OF THE WORLD


The Stonehenge has been the focus of archeological investigations beginning in the seventeenth century however the true meaning of this ancient creationhas been lost in the mist of time. Was Stonehenge a temple for the Sun worship, a healing center, a burial site or perhaps a huge calendar? This is something no one can tell for sure. How did thisprimitive people managed to carry the stones from so far away using just the most primitive of tools? Archeologists failed to tell the truth. They just can state theories that keep changing from time totime. The real significance of Stonehenge is always under debate.


Located in the county of Wiltshire, Stonehenge is one of the most famous groups of megaliths in the planet. The sanctuary consistsof circles of menhirs arranged strategically and it is still being investigated its connection to astronomy. It is one of the most impressive megalithic monuments because of the sheer size of itsmegaliths, the shape of the stones or the sophistication of its design… It is also one of the most architecturally significant prehistoric stone circle and it has no competence in design and engineering.It is important to know that it was built with just two different types of stones, sarsen and bluestone, and that they were brought from great distances (up to 240 km). It represents the wit of menin Neolithic Ages.


Stonehenge is so important for our heritage because it is one of the last mysterious structures in the planet, for thousands of years one of the world’s great archeologicalenigmas. People wonder what it was originally for. It is unique and no one in the world can explain why was it built for. It has generated great speculation and a lot of theories go around. When peoplearrive there and stare at it they have a strange sensation, the sensation that it has been something very important in the past but its purpose still remains one of the great mysteries in the world....
