Tajima, this short story written by Miss Mitford, relate us the live of a man named Tajima Shume, a well prepared man that was in one of his travels to see the world, committed an awful crime,blinded by greed, in one of his journeys he met a priest, this priest was recollecting to build a Buda, the building of this Buda was the porpoise of his live, in the trip he became friends with Tajima andconfide his dream to him, At the first time Tajima was interested in the story of this very wise priest, but at the time passes he thought, that it would be very easy to kill the priest and stole allthe money that the priest carriage with him, and with this he can had a better life and he wouldn’t struggle for anything for the rest of his life. So when they were on a boat travelling for theirdestination he pushed him over board and watched how the priest sunk in the water and didn’t help him, while all the passengers try to help him the wind played in favor of Tajima and the ship was unableto go back for the priest by the time they tried to go back the priest already sunk. After this, he talked with the passengers of the boat and lied about the relationship that he had with the priest,he told them that the priest was his cousin, and told them that he wanted to build the Buda that’s why he was travelling, he convinced the people to do not present charges to the authorities and thathe will take care of everything. The passengers fall for the very convincing lie that Tajima told them and they bought it.

When Tajima arrived in Kyoto he changed his name from Shume to Tokubeiand he dedicated to business, he made good inversions, he create business and make a huge fortune with the money of the priest, he got married, and make a family, but as the time passes he always got aquestion in his mind that he couldn’t answer, how is it that life never cashed him for what he did, he had a great wife, healthy kids, a huge fortune, he never became a murder, all the work that he...
