I am going to tell you a touching story of overcoming, fight and love, which has moved many people to tears.This is the story of The Team Hoyt.
The Team Hoyt is made up of two people: afather,Dick and his son,Rick. They usually run marathons, triathlons and duathlons. So far, nothing special.Probably, all around the world there are thousands, or even,millions of cases like this.But thespecial thing in The Team Hoyt is that the son is handicapped. He suffers a cerebral palsy since his birth.
The story began in 1962when Rick Hoyt, born and his umbilical cord twisted around his neckwhich caused a lack of oxygen in his brain and as a result of this a cerebral palsy. Doctors said to his parents that he would be nothing more than a “vegetable”, and advised them to institutionalize him,but they detected some signs of intelligence on him and didn’t give in, so they visited other doctors and one of them, who worked in Children´s Hospital in Boston, encourage them to educate him likeany other child.
His mother, Judy, spent many hours every day teaching him with cardboard letters and posting signs on every objects in the house. In a short time Rick learned the alphabet. Afterthe evidence that Rick was able to learn like everyone else,his parents needed to find a way to help Rick communicate for himself.
In 1972 some engineers at Tufts University built an interactivecomputer so that he were able to communicate with the people.
Then the parents had to fight hard to achieve that Rick be admitted at the school. Finally at the age of 13 was admitted into publicschool.After high school, Rick attended at Boston University and he got a degree in Special Education in 1993.
