Great Barrier Reef
It’s the biggest reef of the world. It covers 34500 kilometers squares of marine flora and fauna. It’s in Coral’s sea, in front of Queensland’s coast in Australia’s northeastern.It has so beautiful ecosystems. They have a lot of diversity, too. There are approximately 1900 species of fishes, 350 coral’s species ad 400 sponges. It’s protecting by The Marine Park of GreatBarrier Reef. It was declared Humanitarian’s Patrimony by UNESCO since 1981.
But there is a big problem. Some Scientifics have said that this marine paradise could disappear in 40 years. The Great BarrierReef’s called “particularly sensitive sea area” by the International Marine Organization. There are two factors that affect this ecosystem. They are tourism and pollution. To protect this city wehave to take into account these things.
About the tourism:
This reef is very popular between found of scuba diving but here we have some prohibitions.
You mustn’t dive in some areas because someonecould touch or break some coral. Also you’re not supposed to buy any marine fauna because it could be specie in danger and it contributes to illegal trade. It contributes to wipe out some species,too. Some specie like the black coral might disappear.
There are cruises that sail near to the reef, but in some years sailing near there will be forbidden, because these cruise speed up its extinction.Now there’s no dropping anchor allowed because it may break a coral, maybe an old coral.
Also the fishing is a problem, too. You’re not allowed to fish, because it alters reef’s balance. As well thefishing puts in danger coral’s ability to reproduce. You’re not supposed to introduce rare species in the reef, either. Because some species are coral’s predatory like thorn’s crown.
About thepollution:
The pollution because of petroleum is the most destructive. To prevent more destruction we have to do these things
