the type of satire used in this piece work, called The Onion is categorized as Horatian because it is light humor, it is funny comical in a good way,event hough it mocks different aspects and people of American society, it does so in a delicate manner. Unlike Juvenalian satire that contains a muchdarker tone, and is written in a bitter and angry way, Horatian satire is used in The Onion to make readers laugh at common American vices instead ofmaking them feel disgusted by them, which is something Juvenalian satire would probably inspire. The use of Horatian rather than Juvenalian satirereveals that the newspaper's main goal is not to make the readers notice they are doing something shameful or horrible by mocking it in a crude way butto show them the reality of their vices exaggerating some situations to make the readers realize that they actually happen but in a less ridiculousway.
Satire is meant to criticize an aspect of society, in The Onion, satire mocks popular American culture by highlighting their vices andexaggerating them to become something laughable. At the same time it is criticizing these aspects in a subtle way. The newspaper themed entries are make thesubjects discussed be delivered in a more casual way than an essay would, plus this parody of a newspaper creates incongruity since one expects to readabout a serious topic in a newspaper, but on the contrary, The Onion does not talk about serious subjects but about non-important and basically
