In February 2, 1848, the governments of The United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and were ratified on May 30 1848. AfterUnited States of America won the Mexican American war. The Unites States of America gained power of the most part of the southwest states that at onepoint were part of Mexico for a price of eighteen million dollars that now a days it would be $867,509,195.59. In this treaty, several agreementsbetween the countries were made. This essay will focus in one of some of these agreements, and how Mexico and the United States of America did not followedat it was stipulated on the Treaty.

Since, there is proved in history that this treaty was not respect by the United States of America.
“Article IXprovided that those who did not choose to remain Mexicans citizens would be considered to “have elected” to become U.S.citizens” (Castillo 66) this atsome point, caused an anti-Mexican atmosphere that gave rise to the violations of the civil rights of Mexicans. In Texas, they restricted the right tovote, in New Mexico, new naturalized “Americans” were victims of violence and in California authorities adopted new laws against Mexicans for exampleon of it was known as Greaser Laws during the Chicano Movement during the 1960’s. The United States of America did not fulfill its promise made to theMexican citizens to be treated as US citizens, since they had the right to maintain in the United States new territory, that was purchase by the U.S.A.
