Hydrologic Cycle
Just like the earth, humans are at least 70% water. The life of the planet depends on fresh water; therefore, the amount of fresh water on earth could not be enough for the growingpopulation on the planet. Being aware of the hydrologic cycle and its process might help humans to be able to restore and use the water in a more intelligent way without wasting it. Water is alwaysin a cycle. This cycle can be divided into three main steps: evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
The cycle starts from the evaporation of water from the seas, rivers, lakes, snow, glaciers,the ground, and even some of the water vapour comes from plants. All the vapour of water goes into the atmosphere. Evaporation is basically caused by the heat and energy of the sun. According to thearticle “Earth’s Water Cycle” (Gardiner, 2009), the different physical processes that happen to produce the vapour are sublimation (from ice to vapour), transpiration of plants and leaves; however,the principal and major producer of water, is evaporation (from liquid to gas). The increasing population and the usage of strong chemicals have put all water at risk because chemicals can alsoevaporate to the atmosphere and mix with fresh water (Lenntech Water Treatment & Purification Holding B.V, 1998-2009).
After all the vapour is in the atmosphere, it starts to condense. The process ofcondensation is an effect of the lower temperatures of the atmosphere compared with the surface of the earth where the energy of the sun is absorbed. When the vapour gets to the atmosphere, thetemperature condensates water into minute drops; these drops become clouds (Gardiner, 2009). With the high concentration of contamination and chemicals, the pH of the water turns lower than normal, and thatcan produce acid rain in the most contaminated zones of the world (Lenntech Water Treatment & Purification Holding B.V, 1998-2009).
