WHY SHOULD I STUDY A MASTER IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY?

A brain drain1 is a present phenomenon in underdeveloped countries, as Jorge E.
Pereira2 said, 300.000Latin-American’s professionals left their own country by 1990 ,
even, nowadays almost all Colombian’s university students are looking for study a
postgraduate in a foreign country; probably, as result ofdifferent causes like find more
economical guaranties, a better lifestyle or have access to international knowledge.
That’s why, I believe is important to carry out this paper and try to explainaccording to
economical o social theory the reasons to travel abroad to study a master. At the
beginning, I shall contrast the economical and social theory with the possible causes to
begin an immigrationprocess and finally I am going to give the conclusions.
Social mobility3 can be one of the best reasons to study a master in a foreign country; if
someone Improve his curriculum vitae, he will beable to find a better job or get a pay
rise in fact he will have a better quality of life; the returns to education in developed
countries is between 21.7% and 27.8% (Fischer, 2005) while the returnsto education
according to education ministry of Colombia is 5.0%, in another hand GINI4 coefficient
