Winter is coming
Climate change is not a problem. It is a natural process of the planet looking for equilibrium. The problem lies in the "intervention" of man. The man, with its constant pursuitof development (which is not bad), has not taken the necessary precautions to prevent the damage that this development is causing to our planet.
On our planet, we have reached a point that it feelsnormal seeing on TV everyday, Typhoons, burning forests, tsunamis, blizzards, and drought. Watching all this one may think: "this has nothing to do with me", or perhaps, when we hear the term "globalwarming" we think about science fiction films or radical environmental groups, do you honestly think that global warming is a problem of the next generations? The answer is NO.
In the late 80s, theinternational scientific community alerted the world to the close relationship between increased emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities and global climate disruption. In response to thisalert, the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development was created and then, in 1992, the Convention on Climate Change. Currently 171 countries are part of this international treaty.According to this Convention, climate change is primarily the result of industrialization and consumption patterns of developed countries; the treaty obliges them and the economies in development toreduce their emissions. The deadline for the reduction was in 2000, but only 34% fulfilled.
Most developed countries have failed to reduce their emissions. Only Finland, Norway, Germany and Englandhave met the reductions. No country has met technology transfer involved. However, there is increasing pressure from developed countries to developing countries to stabilize or reduce emissions. Forexample, the U.S. Senate has unanimously ruled not to accept new commitments unless some developing countries also reduce emissions.
