Santiago Maravatío, esta última palabra viene de la lengua purépecha que significa “Lugar precioso”. Y la otra es en honor al apóstol Santiago; Fr. Alonso de Alvarado, le encomendó el pueblo al Apóstol el día de su fundación (25 de Julio de 1540) que también era el día del santo. Así quedando como el nombre oficial: Santiago Maravatío.
Nosotros como equipo queremos que todos loshabitantes de Santiago Maravatío se interesen en su pasado y que como nosotros se den cuenta que si nadie se interesa por la historia de su pueblo, es un “pueblo desconocido y olvidado”.
