Father figures play an important role in the novel. Frex is one of the only parents we actually see being a father. (Fiyero never have any interaction in the text with theirchildren, and Boq is very short scenes, with its near end of the novel.) This paper highlights Frex parents. Frex dominates the lives of their daughters, in many ways: Nessa is his mini-me andElphaba has a huge complex love / hate relationship with him, reflecting his feelings for her.
