Aeropuerto International de la Ciudad de Mexico Benito Juarez, AICM, Mexico City International Airport, (MEX), is the busiest airports in Mexico. MEXairport was inaugurated in 1931, the airport did not serve as a commercial airport until 1952. In the 70s, President Luis Echeverria closed three runways, to give the land to the people of Mexico City tobuild their houses. Nowadays MEX airport has two parallel runways, offers over 100 destinations worldwide, to North America, South America, Central America, Europe, Caribbean and Asia. Benito JuarezAirport serve has the main hub of the leader airline in Mexico “Aeromexico”, is also the hub of Aeromexico Connect, Aeromar, Interjet, and all members of Skyteam. The Airport served 26,368,862passenger in 2011 and about 350,000 Aircraft movements.
MEX should be able to served 32,000,000 passengers a year with the last renovations that the airport has. Even though, the airport should have beenable to serve over 40 million passengers a year, if it would have growth at the same pace than the passenger’s rate. In 2001 President Vicente Fox, announced the construction of a new Capital CityInternational Airport in Texcoco and San Salvador Atenco, because the lack of space in the current location of Benito Juarez Airport. Mexico City has grown so much, that Benito Juarez Airport issurrounded by residences and commercial business. The project was cancel, and instead in 2002 they launched a project to expand Benito Juarez Airport to his maximum capacity. In 2007 Mexico City AirportInaugurated, Airport Terminal 2. All skyteam members operated from terminal 2, but Air France and KLM.
