Handout the paper with the 26 sub-elements of the MS listed and blank boxes to their right. Ask the group to pay attentiuon to detail as they watch the video and to make notes inthe boxes next the the apllicable sub-element when they see a failure (or success) of the MS (which at that time did not exist yet). The MS as we know it resulted from thefindings of the Cullen Inquiry which investigated the Piper Alpha disaster and so we owe the very system we use to the 167 men who died that fateful night. At the end of the video goaround the group and ask them what they noticed and how our MS (if implemented properly) would likely have not allowed that set of circumstances to occur. They should notice thingslike Accountability (the manager on the Claymore not feeling confident to shut down production), Risk management/ Contractors/Management of Change (how they handled the water delugesystem with divers in the water), Maintenance/Asset Integrity (why were all the pumps failing), Emergency Response (would a drill have helped?), PTW system failures, Lock-outtag-out etc. The message they should get is that implementing any one of these measures would have prevented the worst case scenario…the more barriers you can get in place the lesschance there is of such a disaster occurring…and you just have to trust that the system is protecting you…you may not give a Lock-out tag-out too much thought or give it too muchfaith…but just doing that properly would have saved 167 lives for example…only you never would have known that you saved them. You just have to believe in the system and the part eachbarrier plays.

A speaker’s guide is given as part of the package as far as sub-element notes that are often raised by the group and to bring up in case they don’t catch them.
