Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is a very recognized artist. He was an artist, photographer, printmaker and filmmaker of the visual artmovement known as pop art. His real name was Andrew Warhola, Warhol was considered “Bestseller of the art market” because of the prices of his paintings.

Warhol was born in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania, on August 6 of 1928. He started his artistic talent and studied commercial art at the school of Fine Arts at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Then he started a career inmagazine illustration and advertising. He found an intimate relationship between the he and the photography. He started to appropriate photographic images from advertising and photojournalism as thestarting point for his celebrated silkscreen paintings. Later, his photographs captured the faces of the rich and famous, the glittering New York disco scene, and glimpses of his world travels. The camerabecame his constant companion, serving as a combination sketchbook and diary. At the time of his death in 1987, Warhol left behind an archive of more than 60,000 snapshots and Polaroids. Many of thephotographs he took were the source material for his paintings. Warhol liked to work with photobooth portraits and self-portraits, which were used to produce silkscreen paintings, some of these portraitswere of celebrities and famous people. He also worked with Polariod celebrities, in which the models applied a thick coat of chalk-white foundation meant makeup to eradicate any imperfections andguarantee a youthful, flawless look. At the end of his career he started to work with death and disaster, gruesome subjects: car crashes, suicides, electric chairs, food poisonings, and the hydrogenbomb.


Andy Warhol is an important artist in the scene of pop art. In my opinion he was a pioneer who showed to the world a revolutionary art that appear at that time. One of my favorites...
