People in this society were slaves of the dictators, but they didn’t only enslave their body, they also enslave their minds.
“It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no other think andto put them down upon a paper no other are to see. It is base and evil” (Page 17). In this quote of the text, we can see how those persons absorb their brains because they think it is something evilto write about yourself.
“Our name is Equality 7-2521, as it is written on the iron bracelet which all men wear on their left wrist with their names upon it” (Page 18). As you can see, they did nothave common names; they were named as “Equality”, “Liberty”, “International”… Because if you have a name, you have your own identity, and on Equality’s society that was forbidden.
“International4-8818 and we are friends. This is an evil thing to say, for it is a transgression, the great Transgression of Preference, to love any among men better than the others, since we must all men and all menare our friends.” (Page 30). “Liberty 5-300… We wish to write this name. It was evil to have close friends or think about others, it was a transgression to care about someone because you had to care about all in the same way, youcould not think of a woman, it was forbidden.
