Boeing 787 Dreamliner Offers Improved Experience for PassengersBy combining its unique understanding of how the human body reacts to flight conditions and how emerging technologies can improve those conditions, Boeing is creating a better flying experience withits all-new 787 Dreamliner.
The company, along with universities from around the world, has embarked on numerous studies to understand the effects of altitude, humidity, air contaminants, lighting, sound and space on passengers. In addition, Boeing has studied how these factors play together to develop combinations to create the best overall experience. Findings have helped lead tosignificant improvements on the 787.

Ride Quality: Providing a Smoother Flight
Passengers give higher ratings to flights that do not encounter turbulence. The 787 will have sensors that cause certaincontrol surfaces to make slight modifications to counter the affects of turbulence. This innovative system help maintain a smoother ride throughout the flight, resulting in less nausea for thosesubject to motion sickness.

Altitude: How High is Just Right?
Today's airplanes are pressurized to a typical cabin altitude of 6,500 to 7,000 feet with a maximum certification altitude of 8,000feet. The advanced composite materials used on the 787’s fuselage do not fatigue, which allows for lower altitude levels.
Studies at Oklahoma State University explored the effect of altitude onpassengers to determine optimum levels. After testing at various altitudes, it became clear that lowering the cabin altitude to 6,000 feet provided meaningful improvements. Furthermore, lowering...
