Herpes (Genital)
Transmission: It can be passed by intimate sexual contact with other person infected. In other words, the person can be infected with herpes if the vagina or penis comes intocontact with someone who already has herpes sores blisters or rash; however, it can be transmitted the same way even when no sores or other symptoms are present.
Treatment: It can’t be cured, but antiviralmedication, such as acyclovir, famciclovir and calacycovir, can relieve pain, discomfort and severity of current infections, as the same as the number of lesions, limiting the spread of the infectionand reducing healing time. If you take these medicines daily over a period of time, you can help prevent outbreaks and also reduce the chance of giving herpes to someone else. Some of the sideeffects of these medicines are: fatigue, headache, nausea and vomiting, rash, seizures and tremor. In addition, daily suppressive therapy for symptomatic herpes can reduce transmission to partners.Consequences: Newborns exposed to the herpes virus through the birth canal may experience skin lesions, blindness, brain damage or death. Having a cesarean section may help decrease the possibility ofcontracting the virus during the birthing process. It may cause inflammation to the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord, called meningitis, which may cause symptoms such as high fever and stiffneck. People with herpes have an increased risk of acquiring additional infections, especially sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV. In other part, the genital herpes consequences can somehowcause a dramatic drop on the person’s self-esteem. Also, it can cause cervical cancer.
Pathogen: Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). HVS-2 causes the genital herpes, and genital HSV-2infections are more common in women than men.
