Was the largest and fastest battleship in history, surpassed only by the Japanese battleship Yamato.

A. Introduction to the ship. • Details and brief history: The battleshipBismarck was designed like a technical evolution of her predecessor battleship Scharnhorst. The vessel was ordered officially after the treaty between Germany and England. The keel was collocated onJuly 1, 1936, three years after, on February 14, 1939, was launched, and on August 24, 1940 was delivered to the Nazi army. The cost of construction of the vessel was 196.8 million Reichmarks. Thedetails of design were manipulated to suit the conditions of the London Treaty. An example of the manipulations was in the register of the measures where officially listed of the displacement was35.000 tons and the real displacement was more than 7.000 tons. Measurements: -Displacement: o Standard: 43.978 metric tons. o Full charge: 51.760 metric tons. -Length overall (LOA): 251 meters. -Lengthbetween perpendiculars (LPP): 241, 5 meters. -Extreme breadth: 36 meters. -Maximun draft: 10, 55 meters. -Freeboard: between 4, 8 and 5, 67 meters. -Depth: 15 meters. The battleship Bismarck onlytook part in a battle, the Rheinübung Operation, in the Atlantic North, for which it was prepared during a year. The battle was started on 1941 May and lasted ten days. Firstly, with the sinking of theHood, the battle seemed won by the Germans, but, the history changed when the Bismarck was reached and she lost her ability to maneuver, was, then, when de English army hammered the Bismarckproducing her 3 ways of water in the hull, but were the Germans, from inside the ship, the responsible of the sinking. A total of 2.065 men formed the crew of the Bismarck, however, due to the OperationRheinübung the total of the crew increased to be more than 2.200 men, of which 115 survived. The crew was divided into 12 divisions of 220 men each. The crew was composed in 12 divisions.
