Cataratas Falls

INTRODUCCION
La naturaleza nos ha regalado un sin fin de recursos naturales para poder aprovecharlos causando el menor impacto posible.
Creado en enero de 1939 el Parque Nacional del Iguaçu Patrimonio Natural de la Humanidad, con su variedad biológica sumada la singularidad de su paisaje de rara belleza escénica de las Cataratas, se crea el parque nacional como sitio de patrimonio mundialnatural por la UNESCO en 1986
Recientemente fue electa como una de las 7 maravillas de la naturaleza en el concurso mundial de la Fundacion New 7 Wonders of Nature.

The Iguaçu Falls
The work Iguaçú means "big water" in the tupi-guarani etymology. The Iguaçú river, which forms the Falls eighteen km before the river meets the Paraná river, overcomes a ground unevenness and plunges 65m with awidth of 2,780m. Its geological formation dates back to approximately 150 million years.
The Iguaçú River is 1,200 wide upstream from the fall and downstream it narrows down to a 65m channel. The total width of the fall in the Brazilian territory is around 800m and 1,900m on the Argentinean side. Depending on the river flow, the number of waterfalls ranges from 150 to 300 and the height of saidwaterfalls ranges from 40 to 82m, accounting for a 2,700m semicircular shape. The average water flow of the river is around 1,500m3, ranging from 500m3/s during the draught season to 6,500m3/s during the flood season.

The individual waterfalls may range from 20 to 300 depending on the water volume. The large waterfalls are 19, three of them on the Brazilian side (Floriano, Deodoro and BenjaminConstant) while the remaining ones are on the Argentinean side. The position of the waterfalls, most of them on the Argentinean side and facing Brazil, provide a better view to those admiring the scenery from the Brazilian side.
After taking a wide turn and the rapids, the bulk of the falls plunges laterally into the deep erosion gorge, the Devil's Gorge. This 85m high waterfall is the one mostappreciated by tourists; its shape resembles a horseshoe.

Visistors Center
The Visitors Center is not just a place for tourist arrivals and departures. It is a special reception center where the Iguaçú National Park welcomes everyone. The smiles and enthusiasm are telltale signs of how pleased everyone feels after this first contact with the Park.
Access to the Park is made through the 108thousand sq.m. Visitors Center outside the preservation area, 4,000 sq. m. of which are covered. The 50,000 sq.m. parking area is capable of taking 170 buses, 20 vans and 676 small vehicles. The VC has two ramps, one inside and the other outside, for tourist arrivals and departures.

The Poço Preto Trail
A 9km guided walk or bike trail - bilingual guides - whileadmiring the fauna and flora in the Iguaçú National Park
The highlight of this tour is at Ilha da Taquara (Taquara Island) with an option of a down river trip on kayaks or motorboats as far as the Canoas Port or by taking the Bananeiras Trail. A 2km walk.

Macuco Safari
A trail in the woods on a carriage pulled by an electric powered vehicle and awalk followed by a boat ride by the Iguaçú River all the way to the Falls.
The great adventure begins at the Macuco Safari entrance gate after visitors board an open carriage that provides a general view of the scenery along the trail.
During the three-kilometer route through the jungle, multilingual guides describe the fauna and flora of the Park, orchids, heart of palm trees, bromeliads,hundred-year-old trees and wild life that are seen during the ride.
On food by the trail - The second phase, a 600-meter stretch (optional), takes the party on a walk by the trails that lead to the fall known as Salto do Macuco (Macuco Waterfall).
