It’s Time To Stop Violence Against Children

Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime.
Every day there are more and more children abused and hurt around the world. At least 1 in 10people are abused during their childhood. What if one of them is someone close to you? Sometimes we deny child abuse exists because we don’t believe things like this can occur. However, violenceagainst children is a very grave worldwide problem which happens every day and everywhere. This issue leaves devastating consequences which affects in many different ways, either to the child himself orin worldwide standards. This is the reason why we need to try to stop or at least prevent this issue.
We often hear in the news someone is being arrested because they abused a child. We findourselves feeling sorry for the child and wondering how someone can hurt an innocent boy or girl. But, do we really know what child abuse is? Are we conscious of the huge amount of children being abusedall over the world? Child abuse is the physical, sexual, emotional mistreatment, or neglect of children. Normally, 90% of abused children know their abusers well. That’s really sad, isn’t it? Theabusers might be their own baby sitters, a family friend or even their parents. Every year, there are around 1.5 million cases of domestic violence involving children, and about 2,000 - 5,000 childrendie because of this.
Violence against children causes a lot of terrible consequences in the children being abused. The results can be physical or psychological. Abused children have scars, brokenbones, swollen eyes or parts of the body. Unfortunately, sexually abused children might contract venereal diseases such as AIDS. In fact, in 2007, 2 million out of 30 million people that had AIDSwere children.
