When to start the college application process
1. It is never to early to visit colleges and college websites
2. Use the internet to gain detailed admissionsinformation and the list for local events
3. Sign up for college tours and special visit days online at the college website
4. Take a strong academic schedule, at least four to five academicclasses every semester
5. Take your SAT and ACT tests during your Junior year
1st step:
Recognize YOUR personal strengths and goals and think about the social and academic environmentsavailable at various colleges
2nd step:
Do research as to the programs and or majors that meet your goals and the colleges that have the type of environment you want to live in for the next four years(location & activities)
3rd step:
As a family discuss the financial aspects of college. Cost to attend includes tuition, books, fee, and transcript room ad board.
4th step
Start a detailedinvestigation of colleges that match your strengthen, goals, locations, costs, social and academic environment
5th step
Prioritizes your list as to which factors is most important
6th step
Narrow your listto 8 – 12 colleges 3 - 4 Safe: 4 - 6 Target: 2 - 3 REACH colleges
The above steps should be completed by August of the senior year.
Typical college application deadlinesRolling Admissions colleges: Recommended before Oct. 31st
Nov. 1st – 15: Early Action or Early Decision
Nov. 30th -- UC & CSU
Dec – Jan – Private Colleges
All applicationmaterial must be postmarked, received or submitted online by the application deadline. This includes the completed application, application fee, essay, transcript, test scores, letters of rec., and anythingelse required by the college.
