When talking about fairy tales and short stories they have some elements in common but they also have a few that differ. From characters, to plot, setting and narrator tothemes all differ when fairy tales and short stories are compared. But the most impacting and different are the plot and their climax. In this essay you will see the main differences in the fairy talesplot with the short stories plot by studying ‘’Little Red Riding Hood’’, ‘’ The Story of an Hour’’, and ‘’Beauty and the Beast’’. Most of the fairy tales are told to teach a lesson or moral dependingon the age and culture. We also see some type of magical or fantasy type story when we read a fairy tale which has a great impact on how the story is interpreted. On the other hand, short storiesare written the majority of the times to entertain the reader and does not necessary involve magical characters or heroes, and it is not written to teach the reader a lesson.

A plot, no matter whattype of story you are writing or reading it has the same structure. First you have the exposition that it is mainly the beginning of the story, then the rising action were the action starts to exposeand then the climax that it is the most important part of the story, and where the most important events take place. After this comes the falling action were things start to go back to normal, andfinally there is the resolution when the story is ending. In short stories readers tend to see that the plot does not involve a lesson or moral, it is more of an action or suspense scene thatsomething is going to happen to a character. In ‘’The Story of an Hour’’ by Kate Chopin readers see that the climax of the story is when Mrs. Mallard knows that something that she is fighting no to know iscoming.
