COMPARATIVE
Comparativos son adjetivos que se usan para comparar dos personas o cosas.
En inglés cuando comparamos dos cosas usamos los adjetivos y sus tres grados: positivo, comparativo y superlativo.
El grado positivo refiere la forma más simple:
A sunny day / Un día soleado
- El grado comparativo refiere una cualidad mayor de una cosa respecto de otra.
A betterday / Un día mejor
- El grado superlativo refiere la cualidad en su mayor expresión:
Today is the best day of the year / Hoy es el mejor día del año

Grados de los Adjetivos:
positive comparative superlative
tall taller The tallest
big bigger The biggest
intelligent More intelligent The most intelligent
expensive More expensive The most expensive


Para formar el comparativo, se debenseguir las siguientes reglas:
• Se agrega al adjetivo "er" o "r", si ya termina en "e".
small - smaller
• Si la palabra termina en vocal + consonante, se duplica la consonante.
big - bigger
• Si termina en "y" se cambia por "ier".
happy - happier

Comparative adjectives
Para formar adjetivos comparativos en inglés:

1. Para adjetivos con dos consonantes añade er

Tall-Taller

2.Para adjetivos que acaban en la letra e añade r

Large-Larger

3. Para adjetivos que acaban en una vocal + un consonante añade consonante + er

Big-Bigger

4. Para adjetivos que acaban en y añade ier

(tidy, empty, dry, busy, dirty, funny, early)

Happy-Happier

5. Si el ajetivo tiene dos sílabas ó mas usa more + el adjetivo

(excepciones son los adjetivos que acaban en y verarriba)

Modern-More modern

6. Hay algunos adjetivos a los que se puede añadir er or more

Clever Cleverer ó More clever
Narrow narrower ó More narrow
Simple Simpler ó More simple


7. Algunos adjetivos son irregulares

Para escribir frases comparativas:

Se usa el verbo + adjetivo comparativo + than + objeto

She is taller than hersister. Ella es mas alta que su hermana.
Today is hotter than yesterday. Hoy es mas caluroso que ayer.
CLASES DE COMPARACIÓN
• Grado positivo: Inteligente – intelligent
• Grado comparativo:
• de igualdad: tan inteligente como … – as intelligent as …
• de superioridad: más inteligente que … – more intelligentthan …
• de inferioridad: menos inteligente que … – less intelligentthan …
• Gradosuperlativo: el más inteligente – the most intelligent
Así pues, vemos que los adjetivos comparativos y superlativos en inglés por regla general se construyen con: as … as, more … than, less … than, y the most, pero esto no siempre es así.
El comparativo de superioridad y el superlativo siguen reglas distintas en ocasiones especiales. Veamos una tabla con todos los casos posibles:Adjetivo Comparativo de superioridad Superlativo
