Hi my name is Divina Aguirre
I'm going to talk about The principal sea currents around the world.
But first, I am going to do a small introduction about sea currents in general.
A sea current is the movement of the water of the oceans and the most extensive seas, these currents have multitude of reasons, principally, the movement of terrestrial rotation and for the constant or planetary winds,as well as the configuration of the coasts and the location of the continents.
Now I'm going to talk about The principal sea currents around the world
First: H Humboldt Current
Humboldt Current is a cold-water current of the southeast Pacific Ocean, with a width of about 900 km (550 mi). Relatively slow and shallow, it transports only 350,000,000–700,000,000 cu ft of water per second. It is aneastern boundary current similar to the California Current of the North Pacific.
Humboldt's current, it is possible to feel from Chiloé's island towards the north; it is a superficial current generated by the system of discharges pressures of the Pacífico and of the Brave Winds of the West. The current constitutes a north extension of subAntarctic waters of low salinity (34,7 %), lowers temperature(18°C) and high place contained of oxygen. The thermal and chemical properties of Humboldt's Current associate to: coastal Fogs and Great productivity marinades.
Second: “ El Niño” a warm current of water
El Niño, initially referred to a weak, warm current appearing annually around Christmas time along the coast of Ecuador and Peru and lasting only a few weeks to a month or more.
El Niño isobserved when the easterly trade winds weaken, allowing warmer waters of the western Pacific to migrate eastward and eventually reach the South American Coast. The cool nutrient-rich sea water normally found along the coast of Peru is replaced by warmer water depleted of nutrients, resulting in a dramatic reduction in marine fish and plant life.
California Current
California Current, surface oceaniccurrent, southward-flowing continuation of the Aleutian Current along the west coast of North America between latitudes 48° N and 23° N. The California Current’s surface velocity is commonly less than 10 in. (25 cm) per second
During the summer, when upwelling is most dominant, a countercurrent below 650 ft develops close to the coast. The cold upwelling water brings rich nutrients to the surface andabundant plankton and animal life is supported.

Madagascar Current.
The Madagascar current is split into two current the North Madagascar Current (NMC) and the East Madagascar Current (EMC). The South easterly trade winds, the South Equatorial current (SEC) and the south Indian Ocean (SIO) flow westward when it reaches Madagascar’s east coast the flow splits into the NMC and EMC. Both currentsredistribute mass and heat along the stream current system along Madagascar’s coast. The North Madagascar Current flows into the South Equatorial Current just North of Madagascar and is directed into the Mozambique Channel.

Finally Cromwell Current
The Cromwell Current (also called Pacific Equatorial Undercurrent or just Equatorial Undercurrent) is an eastward-flowing subsurface current thatextends the length of the equator in the Pacific Ocean. The Cromwell Current was discovered in 1952by Townsend Cromwell, a researcher with the Honolulu Laboratory. It is 250 miles (400 km) wide and flows to the east. It is hidden 300 feet (100 m) under the surface of the Pacific Ocean at the Equator and is relatively shallow compared to other ocean currents being only 100 feet from top to base. It has1000 times the volume of Mississippi River and its length is 3500 miles (6000 km).
Antarctic Current
The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) is the most important current in the Southern Ocean, and the only current that flows completely around the globe. The ACC, as it encircles the Antarctic continent, flows eastward through the southern portions of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.
