PRINTING PROCESS – BASIC INFORMATION
• The printing process for aluminum cans is different to standard “offset” printing. Can-Pack utilises “typooffset” technology were each colour is applied separately (separations between colours) and these colours
can not be mixed. The process only allows similar colours to be overprinted, in order to improve the
intensity and in making colours moreopaque.
• Our maximum colour print ability is up to 8 colours (including white) and key factor that must be taken
into consideration by all customers is dot gain after printing (even up to 40%).
• After the Lithography process has taken place, the decorated can body is covered by an overvarnish
(glossy, soft touch or matt). The overall aim is to protect the design and aluminum body against externalconditions.
• Can-Pack has an open attitude towards all customers and graphics agencies and we are happy to offer
factory tours, which give the possibility to witness, evaluate and to understand the process more effectively.
With this knowledge, this will improve communication and effectivenes of the entire process between CanPack, customers and graphic agencies.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR DESIGN PREPARATION
Please follow the instruction below in order to insure a smooth and fast preparation in the design process:
• Firstly, agree with your Can-Pack Area Sales Manager, a line of communication. This should be the first
person, who is sole point of contact in our central graphics studio.
• Secondly,issue the artwork in either AI, CDR or PDF files formats to that contact.
• Files (rasters, pictures to be printed on cans) should be prepared in PSD or TIFF format, with the
resolution of at least 300 dpi and with no merged layers.
• Prepared artwork designs should use pantone colours, that are required to appear on end product. With
that in mind, your nominated graphic contact is able tounderstand the idea without additional questions
(please prepare a legend and write for instance 70% of white etc.).
• We only use an intensity of any particular Pantone colour (for example 30% of Pantone 226).
• When choosing colours, these should be prepared in accordance with selected pantone or with reference
to existing colour sample (for instance: label, previous version of can or otherpackaging).
• For each design, the preparation process is for only one artwork and one colour set (roll-outs). Thereafter
for each version that is changed (i.e. for new layout and different colours), this is treated as a new design
and requires separate preparation and therefore will be applied, in accordance with the Contract wording.

FURTHER GUIDELINES
• We recommend that for each artworkpreparation, you always utilise Can-Pack’s cutting guides
/documents with attention on cans size, please refer to specific appendix no.1;
• All fonts should be altered to curves and minimum required size should be 5 pt;
• The minimum bar code printing area is 80% (appendix no.2);
• Position of the barcode should always be veritical, not horizontal;
• Always use correct colours for thebarcodes to increase their legibility (appendix no.3);
• If Can-Pack uses any photos to rasters, for standard printing technology, then the screen ruling of
90-100 lpi will be applied. And in the case of “hi-resolution ” printing, we are able to achieve screen ruling
up to 150 lpi;
• Always prepare to overlap an area and neck area marked on each cutting guides;
• Can-Pack will deal with separation,using their own knowledge and experience, with the purpose to make
the separation almost not visible on one hand and applicable for printing on the other hand;
• The smallest element that can be printed on a can is 0,1 pt and in case of raster 6% of saturation (we can
decrease up to 1% in case of hi-res technology);
