Cruising has become increasingly popular over the past decade where many new ships have been built for example The Allure of the seas which is due to be launched December 2010. The main destinationfor cruising are usually found between the tropics in the north Hemisphere med at 40°N. The Mediterranean seas are found approximately 35-45°N, Alaska found 60-70°N, Norwegian Fjords found 55-66½°N andthe Indian Ocean consisting of Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia. The Caribbean cruising industry is a large and growing market, and currently the most popular due toa variety of islands and choices of ports, clear waters and palm lined beaches which are all found in the tropics. Some Cruise lines operating in the Caribbean include Royal Caribbean Internationaland Princess Cruises. Many of the islands are the Maldives and the Mauritius and they are low lying with many coral reefs. The landscape is a key feature as many people are attracted to the beauty forexample lots of people can go sailing on The Catamaran and scuba dive, fish or swim with dolphins. Many cruise ships leave the destination at night and arrive at a new destination in the early morning.Many people go on cruising holidays for the landscape and climate, which are important features because of the sunny climate, it is very unusual for people to go on a cruise where the weather isexpected to be bad, and therefore the ideal weather is essential for the cruising industry. The climate is a key feature and during the summer in the Mediterranean, they sail them to South America or theIndian Ocean. However they also sail in the Caribbean during the winter, they do this because they don’t want the ship empty. Fjords cruises in the summer due to no freezing waters. Some cruise shipsare based in Japan and their cruises take place in the pacific South East Asia.
