Interview with Santiago Carrillo

Who are the real communist today in Spain?
Look, I am not going to make a statement saying that the communist in Spain it’s me.Precisely today, I have read in the news a statement from Julio Anguita in which he says that I´m going to the PSOE because is natural that each one goes to his place. IfJulio Anguita means, saying this, that in my youth I was in the Socialist Youth I can answer him back that his place would be Falange, where he was. I´m sure that inSpain there are so much communists that are not neither in my political party nor in the PCE, but in their home.
Is the perestroika the Eurocommunism in the Russianversion?
I think so. With the tragedy that if this would have born in the period of Kruschev who was close enough, but did not see the whole bottom of the problems, inthis time, the situation would be different.
If Lening raises the head up
See, for my those formulas that if someone raises the head up have never liked me, because istrying to put in this person´s mouth what one thinks to giving him more authority. I don’t know what Lening would say if the raises the head up, what I know is that hecan raises it up.
Do you see possible the substitution of Anguita for Antonio Gutiérrez?
I don’t think that Antonio Gutiérrez achieves to leave a reality, which isWorker´s Commissions to head up a ghost like IU and the PCE.
A ghost with some noticed alive, for example, Cristina Almeida.
Cristina Almeida has certain personality, but there´s not have to exaggerate it. She has her limits, maybe in the future she gets transformed in the Spain Margaret Thatcher, but I don’t see it possible today.
