versus utilizando PLAXIS.

ABSTRACT
PLAXIS is a software which uses the finite element numerical
method, for calculating deformation as well as geotechnical stability problems
of various aspects.
Universidad de Magallanes acquired this computersoftware.
However, there is not knowledge about its use, or the range of geotechnical
engineering problems that it can calculate, therefore it was decided to study
this tool, with the intention to give a support material for futures research
performed by students and professors of the Engineering Construction
Department.
In this thesis is shown in a simple and precise way the theoric
fundament of finiteselements method, technique which PLAXIS works. At the
same time it deals with the geotechnical modelation issue, fundamental
aspect, if this kind of software is required, and as a complement of this is
given geotechnical and geomechanism parameters which are more
characteristic of Magellan´s region.
In addition, there is a practical guide to the introductory software
PLAXIS and geotechnicalproblems of different kinds are developed, in order
to show some of the most used functions, in the same way the results
achieved are compared by using a theoretical calculation versus using
PLAXIS.
