Dream or Mechanized Nightmare
In the old days technology was all a dream. They were thinking about flying objects as transportation and 3D images on the phone, like if you were watching the movie “Back to the Future”. Technology, in old times was not enough, which was the reason why they keptall of their great ideas for future generations. The real thing is that those dreams, ideas, visions etc. are coming true. Technology has advanced to a certain point that it has even replaced humans in most of their activities. Humans have invented things with extreme capabilities like incredible strength, carrying amount of things that we could not carry before, unbelievable velocities, because thework that a hundred men did, only one machine could do it and the capability to simply do the whole work. The owners are opting for machines instead of humans. As a result of technological advances there is less need for human workers, and less human workers cause unemployment to rise.
High technology has modified different areas of the community. For example, the materials used in traditionalagriculture were made by the farmers. To restore the soil fertility they did not go to a store to buy fertilizers, on the contrary, they used livestock droppings as fertilizers. According to Fernando Collantes paper “It was an agriculture where the labor and land were the key production factors”(2). In addition in industrialized agriculture, “implements and tools make way for agriculture machineryfrom industry: harvesters, combines, tractors, cultivators, milking machines”(2). From having hundreds of men cutting sugarcane or the grass with a machete to buying huge machines called harvesters to do their job and help the owners economize paying to those men, there has been a shift in work labor. These machines have replaced lots of non-professional employees. But also have replacedprofessional employees.
In areas like industries, professionals have lost the opportunity to work too because they are being replaced by certain machinery that is actually doing the exact thing that they were doing. Nonetheless, those machines were faster and were doing all the work at once. Putting up the labels, caps and organizing different objects like bottles in boxes, things that would take manyhumans workers and more time to accomplish. Not only that, even an operator system that answer all calls instead of having two or three receptionists in a front desk answering them. Even more surprising is replacing a normal broom with an automatic robotic broom. I think that one is really helpful because having an automatic machine broom is perfection, especially for old people like my grandmother. She gets so excited when the broom talks to her, even though she does not understand a thing, and cleans the whole floor in an hour. It seems like machines have become really helpful. Most in the case of not having to pay hundreds of people for doing the job that only one machine could do or, in this case, not paying a housemaid that is being replace by an automatic broom. Certainly that is thepart that bothers the unemployed.
The online encyclopedia “Investopedia” defines industrialization as “the process in which a society transforms from a agricultural society into one based on the manufacturing of goods or services and that individual manual labor is often replaced by machines”. Despite of human replacement it is obvious that automatic systems in industries are a step forward forsociety but also it is a result in the development of problems such as environmental contamination and social deterioration.
These industries are contributing to environmental contamination emitting gases that cause air pollution, for example, carbon dioxide (CO2) has increased its numbers since the industrialization started. In the figure below is presented how carbon dioxide (CO2) has increase...
