EF S’ House
When a person asks an architect the design of his/her house, that person is asking for something more than a space that they can fill with furniture. What they really want is a spacethat can make them live in comfort and with happiness every day. In that aspect, we as architects should follow the thought of Legorreta “Architecture for humans”, because sometimes we just care aboutwhat other architects would think about our projects, but what should really matter is how the users live it and enjoy it.
EF Studio House is a project designed for a mature couple and their two kids.The client asked for a house that could optimize the views of the city, which was the main reason for choosing the land they bought. They also asked to totally separate the public space from theprivate one, and for a studio with great dimensions for the use of the couple.
The result was the design of three volumes totally separated from each other, but at the same time connected with spaces thatincluded nature.
In the first level there are two of the volumes, one is the public space, and the other the semi-private one. The public space volume contains the services, and a big living roomdirectly connected to the garden which looks merged with the city, because it end in a cliff. When I say that the living room is connected with the garden I really mean it, because all the façade of theliving room that is overlooking to the city view is made of crystal windows that can be opened completely.
The semi-private space contains the room for visitors and the studio, which also has cityviews.
In the second floor is located the private space, in that space are located the bedrooms and a private living room. Every space in the house has city views.
This project combines the purity ofminimalism, some ideas of functionalism and totally disagrees with structuralism ideas that reject the importance of the function in the project.
